Think of it as a portable hard drive. The cost of a CD-RW and DVD-RW is more expensive than a normal CD-R/DVD-R One of the greatest confusion arises due to DVD-R/RW and DVD + R / RW. What is the difference? In a nutshell, there is no major difference except the standards created by 2 different organizations. It is important to know whether DVD burner supports them. Most DVD burners support both formats, but make sure you contact the DVD manufacturer or the manual on the types of DVD formats are supported. Duplication Versus Replication For Cd And Dvd: What's The Difference?
There are two ways a copy of a CD or DVD. Information can be burned onto a blank CD / DVD-R, this method is duplication. Information can also be added during the CD / DVD manufacturing process, this method is called replication. Understanding the differences is important in determining which process is best for your project. A double CD / DVD is not only made by a different process than a replicated CD / DVD, but the actual product is different. After the duplication process is complete, the final product is a CD-R or DVD-R. Replication CD stampers for producing CD-ROMs. (ROM means Read Only Memory). The unit costs are lower than duplicated discs. 2. Both offset and screen printing is available for replicated discs. 3. Replicated DVDs may contain 1 layer (DVD-5) information, 2 layers on one side (DVD-9), 1 layer on each side (DVD-10) or 2 layers on each side (DVD-18). Many replication facilities are not set to DVD-18 replication. 4. Most replication facilities, due to their high volume capacity run, can auto-mount discs in jewel cases, paper / Tyvek sleeves, Amaray cases, or cardboard sleeves. Disadvantages of CD / DVD replication 1. The standard turn time is 7-10 days, longer runs for more than 100,000 units. Standard double turn times are 2-3 days. 2. New Cd And Dvd Technology - Blu-ray And Hd-dvd
The compact disc has been around since 1978, developed by Philips and Sony. The reason was developed was to take over for the Laserdisc as the standard digital audio disc. Since its invention, we have many updates on the compact disc technology. The most recent is the CD-R and DVD-discs. The CD-R, you can now burn your own discs at home, and then amending the discs at a later date. DVD technology allows us to record video on a disc, where we used to only be able to incorporate audio and data. As time rolls by, and the disc industry advances, we are faced with new forms of these technologies. The two new contenders are Blu-Ray discs and HD-DVD, here is some information about each of these new disc types. 1. This type Blu-Ray disc, also known as Blu-Ray Disc is the next generation of optical disc. It was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association, a group of consumer electronics / PC / media manufacturers including Apple, HP, Mitsubishi, Philips, Sony and others. The Blu-Ray disc type is designed primarily for recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition (HD) video. It is also ideal for storing large amounts of data from more than previous DVD-R disc storage. It can hold more than 5 times the amount of information that a traditional DVD can hold up to 25 GB single layer and up to 50 GB dual layer. One of the main differences of the Blu-ray Disc is the nature of the laser that the disc is read. Normal DVDs are read with a red laser, the Blu-Ray discs are read with a blue-violet laser. The main advantage of this change is the wavelength of the laser types. The traditional red laser has a wider focus, so the blue-violet laser can be focused more tightly packed so accurate data. This equals more data in less space on the disk, this results in extra storage space available on the new Blu-Ray discs. These new drives are compatible with regular DVDs, which they expected to place in the near future. 2. HD-DVD HD-DVD, High Definition Versatile Discs or High Definition Digital Video Discs, are very similar to the Blu-Ray discs. This type of disc is being developed by a group of consumer electronics / computer companies, led by Toshiba. They also use a blue-violet laser to read the contents of the disc, resulting in an increase in storage capacity compared to regular DVD discs. The HD-DVD can store 15GB single layer and 30GB double layer, allowing the storage capacity of 10GB per layer smaller than the Blu-Ray. But Toshiba has announced a triple-layer 45GB disc that can hold information, and HD DVD discs can both HD DVD and regular DVD information on a disk to keep. At present the two types of disks are fighting it out for the next generation of DVD disc technology, conjuring up images of the battle between VHS and Betamax in the 80 years. I think we all wonder who is coming to the top? In my honest opinion, I think Blu-Ray will become the new standard. Both disc types offer HD capability and large storage capacity, so it's hard to say which is better. The Blu-Ray, with its greater maximum storage capacity and the fact that it is supported by several of the major consumer electronics / PC / media manufacturers, I think will win the battle. But it's all in the air, so only time will tell.
